O ye of little faith.
Let me set the scene for you: I was sitting at Bob Evans, drinking my cup of joe, and waiting on my Rise and Shine skillet to arrive. I began to read USA today as I often do starting with the cover page and gradually working my way throughout the paper. I read about Sotomayor, and some lame football coach, and Afghanistan and how the death rate is steady on the rise, both civilians and troops and so on. Anyways, I got to the op-ed section where readers can write their opinions and feelings about previously written articles. This piece was written about American’s feelings on electing an atheist as the president:
Electing an atheist
William Bazik - Fairview Park, Ohio
“Henry Brinton’s commentary piece, “Why Obama’s church choice matters,” questions whether an atheist could be elected president and cites a poll that states 72% of Americans would probably not vote for an atheist. To me, the figure indicates only that many Christian groups have been very successful at inculcating this intolerance into their members’ minds.
Brinton fails to note that many scientists are atheists and some of these scientists are developing the means for protecting us from intercontinental missiles — the ardent prayers of millions of Christians cannot alter the course of even one missile.”
On the Titanic boat there was a plaque honoring the “indestructible” qualities of the boat. Saying that it was so perfectly built that “Not even God can sink this boat”…
” the ardent prayers of millions of Christians cannot alter the course of even one missile.”
Not as if God has anything to prove. William Bazik obviously doesn’t know the God I serve. If faith can move a mountain, prayer can move a missile.
Mr. Bazik,
I beg to differ.
